Greeted by the expansive stone wall & stone pillared pebbled driveway, you are struck with a full view of Gone Away House standing tall atop the hill. Ideally located near major routes—Hwy 66 and Routes 55, 50, and 17—this property also sits close to the historic towns of The Plains, Middleburg, and Marshall.

Offering multiple ceremony sites for your special day, such as a beautiful 4 Acre Pond site, a 1915 Original Grainery Rustic Barn site, a fully bricked private estate home with options offered at the front of the home on a paver patio with a flagstone stone wall and flowering lavender Crepe Myrtles, the rear of the home has two exit areas. One for the bride exiting through the beautifully stained-glass double doors, the groom exiting from a lower groomsman area up a staircase surrounded by wrought iron railings for ceremonies, leading to a peaceful and serene grassy area overlooking the pond. Beautiful mature trees are on the property, along with many pastural areas and the 45x120 fully bricked barn, providing 5000+ sqft of indoor use. The expansive Barn can accommodate indoor ceremonies, reception with dinner & dancing.

Gone Away House spans four levels with 5 large bedrooms and 5 full baths. The main level includes a formal dining room, parlor with marble fireplace, gathering room with a stone wood-burning fireplace, a paneled sitting room, and a central eat-in kitchen with a wine fridge. The second level features a bright bridal suite with a wood-burning fireplace and scenic views, plus two additional bedroom suites. The upper level offers two matching bedrooms sharing a full bath and some of the estate’s most expansive vistas. The lower level provides an open, comfortable space ideal for groomsmen and family, complete with a pool table, poker table, multiple lounge areas, and a changing area.

The Plains is a small town in northeastern Fauquier County. Historically, The Plains emerged as a rural community in the 1800s. A post office under the name “The Plains” was established as early as 1831. In the mid-1800s, the arrival of the railroad (then called the Manassas Gap Railroad, now a part of Norfolk Southern) boosted local agriculture: The Plains became a shipping center for farm goods from surrounding countryside. In the early 20th century, wealthy northerners discovered this region for fox-hunting, country estates, and leisure — driving demand for large rural properties and horse farms. This helped transform farms and rural land into equestrian estates and country homes.

Middleburg, Virginia blends historic charm with upscale countryside living. Founded in 1787 as a key crossroads village, the town has preserved its 18th- and 19th-century character while becoming the heart of America’s renowned horse and hunt country. Surrounded by rolling hills, vineyards, and premier equestrian estates, Middleburg offers a unique mix of heritage, boutique shopping, fine dining, and rural elegance—making it one of Northern Virginia’s most iconic and sought-after destinations.
